Greedy Collegetown Slumlords on College Ave. Cornellian loading! No. 30340

Who are the poppycocking greedy landlords who own the old CTP building, the old Kraftees buiding and the old Green Cafe building right on the 400 block of College Ave? That's poppycocking prime real-estate and yet they've let them go vacant for long as poppycock. The green cafe building has been empty for years. What the poppycock are they waiting for? Is nobody taking it because the rent is too high or what? Collegetown looks dilapidated now because we have three empty buildings right in the middle of Ctown.. what the hell?

Does anyone have an info about this or seriously what the poppycock. I can't stand collegetown landlords.

Confused 473 loading! No. 30351

Isn't it Lambrou?

Cornellian 6b7 loading! No. 30353

I might be wrong, but I believe they are (mostly) owned by the douchebag Jason Fane of IthacaRenting.com. Below the results of about 40 minutes of reseach (just because):

> “The majority of vacant spaces in Collegetown are owned by the Ithaca Renting Company,” and its owner, Jason Fane. This ruinous monopoly continues because, “Mr. Fane is a very wealthy man who can afford to let his properties stay empty until he can get his asking price”

See http://cornellsun.com/node/18390.

>On Thursday, Collegetown Center LLC –– the landlord of the premises occupied by Green Café –– filed a motion in court against Green Café in response to the company's Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing.
Guess who owns Collegetown Center? Yep! It's Ithaca Renting/Jason Fane! (http://ithacarenting.com/ctmap.php)

See http://cornellsun.com/section/news/content/2010/04/02/collegetown-eatery-green-caf%C3%A9-shuts-down

Also search for Fane Enterprises, Ithaca Renting Company.

…And finally here are more sources leading one to believe that this man has been a dick for some time now (yes I did find some of this on Reddit boo hoo).

1) 1974: Tenants organize, withhold rent from Jason Fane, claiming he has failed to meet his obligations as a landlord (http://cdsun.library.cornell.edu/cgi-bin/newscornell?a=d&d=CDS19740131.2.1.2&cl=&srpos=0&st=1&e=––—20—1–—all)
2) 1979: Ithaca building commissioner briefly condemns a Fane property; some tenants evicted because living space does not meet codes (http://cdsun.library.cornell.edu/cgi-bin/newscornell?a=d&d=CDS19790212.2.3.1&cl=&srpos=0&st=1&e=––—20—1–—all)
3) 2000: Jason Fane attempts (and fails) to have Ithaca's building commissioner shut down Cornell's use of student lounges as temporary freshman housing, presumably to force the new students into the Ithaca rental market. (http://cornellsun.com/node/424)
4) 2006: "In light of the steady increase in Cornell’s class size and subsequent Collegetown housing boom over the past decade, the growing number of vacant storefronts is an alarming trend. So what is the driving force behind the closings? In a word, rent." (http://cornellsun.com/node/18222)

Dino's, a bar which was shut down a year ago and remains empty, was owned by Evelyn Lambrou (see http://cornellsun.com/node/47303). The company, Lambrou Real Estate, owns many apartments on Eddy.

I don't know the specifics on Kraftee's or CTP but I do know that the landlord basically charged way too much rent and was a douche; my guess is it's the same person (but who knows).

Why are ctown landlord such dicks? I don't know. Hopefully someone will figure out a way to reign this shit in sometime soon.

THIS IS A POPPYCOCKING QUALITY POST BRO.

Damn, thank you for writing that.

Cornellian 473 loading! No. 30356

Where does this guy live? We should all take a collective Cornell shit in a box and mail it to him. What a poppycockin asshole.

Cornellian 6b7 loading! No. 30357

Well who knows, what's kind of sad is that
>Jason Fane, a property owner in
Ithaca, New York City, Toronto and
other cities, owns five buildings on
the Commons and 10 buildings in
Collegetown.

this guy probably doesn't live here and just bought places here thinking he'd make bank some day/realized he could turn ctown and commons into a sweet monopoly. Who knows? Maybe the landlords really can't sell cheaper and this is due to the bad economy. History however seems to show otherwise.

pic related: it's jason again, this time in an interview with the Toronto Star (http://homesandcondosblog.com/home/industry-profile-jason-fane-6493.html)

reserved tag just in case, you're welcome this shits kinda interesting haha

Cornellian 473 loading! No. 30361

I agree it is interesting. A lot of Cornellians would want to know about it, good find.

Cornellian d96 loading! No. 30365

This is a situation where I'm tempted to say "government intervention", but I'm sure there will be some arguments to this. My idea is that the city government buys the property at this price that Fane is asking and then sells it to parties interested in starting a business in that area of Collegetown. As prime real estate, I would expect some buyer to come around and purchase the properties on the condition that they do not charge a above a certain price to tenants for a set period of time. So, basically, a price ceiling.

Cornellian d96 loading! No. 30366

Keep in mind, that from the economists' point of view, Mr. Fane isn't a rational human being since he will not make use of the opportunity and gain some form of revenue.

Cornellian 473 loading! No. 30369

What ridiculous price will Fane ask? He's some slumlord real-estate developer, he'll just ask a shitload and if Ithaca doesn't agree he won't sell. He doesn't give a shit and he doesn't care about the greater good either.

A price ceiling will be great. But correctly pointed out that Fane is poppycocking retarded. If he were acting rationaly he would notice that he got no offers and lower the price to fit the market. You can't just keep an artificially high price and expect to make money. What a poppycocking dick.

Cornellian 9c2 loading! No. 30372

the owner of the CTP building is George Avramis. He is slimy as anyone I have met. CTP guys thought he was an idiot too and charged too much for rent.

I lived right above CTP last year, glad to be out of his property.

Cornellian 5ee loading! No. 30373

I hear from a reliable source that he is asking $20k/month for the Green Café property. fffffffuuuuuuuuuuuu

Cornellian 473 loading! No. 30378

Holy shit, what a poppycocking dirtbag. Is this guy for real?

Avramis is also a dickhead, basically all the collegetown landlords are.

Cornellian cc6 loading! No. 30383

The school should buy the properties to ensure quality of life for their students. Rent them over a period of time and make back their money with a price ceiling in place. Not rocket science Skorton.

>renting apartments banned for being communist

Are you in the same world I'm living in? How could that be possible…

The whole 2fa loading! No. 30400

The whole avramis family poppycocking sucks. I seriously doubt all of their properties would pass a fire inspection. But, like the rest of the ctown slumlord mafia they know they can get get away with it bc theres bound to be a cornellian willing to pay a premium price for the location.

Cornellian 473 loading! No. 30403

True. We Cornellians are just as guilty in the racket… if only we could get together and refuse to pay their poppycocking insane rents. I bet some slimebag would break it though.. we can't all unite.

It's like if a professor says "if nobody shows up for the test, everyone will get an A" there's always that one asian poppycocker who shows up to ruin it for everyone else.

Cornellian 0f5 loading! No. 30465

Another good idea would be if Cornellians got together and refused to pay security deposits and bind themselves to leases 9 months in advance, giving us time to actually figure out roommates and find good housing deals. This trend of everyone jumping into housing contracts like lemmings off a cliff the first six weeks of classes is utterly ridiculous and unnecessarily stressful.

Unfortunately, there'll always be those who are completely willing to sign early, and if enough people do that the fear of having good properties slip away almost always sets people into a panic, and you're back at square one.

Oh and for the record for those finding housing this year… never rent from West Shore. They're low rents might be enticing, but be prepared to get what you paid for… oh and losing your entire security deposit too.

Cornellian 242 loading! No. 30520

Yeah I lived in a realllllly shitty Fane owned apartment last semester. That shit could easily be condemned - mostly because of an infestation of pigeons in the alleyway our apartment overlooked. They roosted in our windowsills and shit. blech. The plumbing was horrendous too. And yeah seriously POPPYCOCK this guy for letting that huge property stay vacant so long. It makes collegetown seem so poppycocking run down.

Cornellian 6b8 loading! No. 30523

Anyone know when CTP will reopen in its new location? The Connection is a less than ideal substitute.

costanza.jpg Cornellian 473 loading! No. 30525

>the connection is a less than ideal substitute

Are you on crack?

Connection:
>pepperoni and cheese for $0.99/slice, anything else $1.69/slice
>if you go at 2am they will give you whatever is left in the store (a lot) for like 12 bucks
>taste is good
>guys that work there are nice as poppycock
>doesn't jew you and charges evenly
>arguably worse location (depending on where you live)

CTP:
>four poppycocking dollars per slice if you're a white guy and don't speak arabic while $0.50 a slice if you're a hot blonde girl. poppycock that shit. get your girlfriend to buy the pizza otherwise you're getting ripped off big time
>taste is good
>creepy guy does the thing where he like touches your hand and doesn't give you the change then winks at you and give it to you
>arguably better location (for some)
>more people there after bars close to socialize with

CTP really isn't that great.

Cornellian 473 loading! No. 30526

They also both have chicken bacon ranch and buff chix, which is all you should order anyway.
